Support group for Mega events trains groups in Uruguay

The training ended in March 23, gathering 20 Uruguayans from the Mega events Support Group (Game), formed by 60 members, in addition to groups coordinators from Argentina and Peru.

A committee formed by members of the City Hall, the Local Committee of the World Cup and Management of the Child Protection Council of Porto Alegre traveled to the city of Maldonado, Uruguay, to enable a group from that country that will work in the capital during the mega event, by preventing violation of rights against children and adolescents.

The training ended in March 23, gathering 20 Uruguayans from the Mega events Support Group (Game), formed by 60 members, in addition to groups coordinators from Argentina and Peru.

The group got to know the programs, services and activities for children and adolescents developed in Porto Alegre, such as the Reference Center for Social Assistance (CRAS), Centre for Social Assistance’s Specialized Reference (Creas), Street Action, Holiday Homes and Network of Shelters.

Coordinating the delegation was the Foundation for Social Welfare and Citizenship (Fasc) president, Marcelo Soares. Along with Local Committee for Protection of Children and Adolescents coordinators in the World Cup RS/POA, Carlos Simões, and Porto Alegre’s Guardian Council management, Maria Leticia Cottens.

The economy technician Rogério Portanova Leal and Local Governance director Cynthia Votto exposed, also at the meeting, the financial composition of housing in Porto Alegre during the World Cup.

 

Support to Mega events

The Game will arrive in the capital on June 07, when its members will undergo a new stage of training and presentation of places where they will act, such as the Fan Fest, Party in the Territories and Camp Farrukhabad.

In these places, the group will instruct tourists, in Spanish and English, distributing informational graphic material for preventing human rights violations against children and adolescents, as well as guidance for reporting possible violations during the sporting event.

The work was conceived at the 18th Summit of the Network Mercocities, event held in Porto Alegre from November 26 to 29, in 2013, when the Thematic Unit Sports, led by the cities of Parcona (Peru), Maldonado and Pergaminho (Argentina), provided to assist in the protection of children during the World Cup.

The group travels to Uruguay by invitation of the Municipality of Maldonado – General Directorate of Tourism, with expenses paid by the Uruguayan government.
