Selling bottled water is forbidden in San Francisco

The objective of this measure is intended to produce " zero waste " in San Francisco by 2020 with the attitude of people bring their own bottle and fill with water in public places.

Earlier this month the Californian city of San Francisco became the first of the Planet ban the sale of bottled water in public ownership . The decision took nine months and has heavy punishment for those who violate the law with fines of up to one thousand dollars.

From October this year , will be banned sales of water in plastic bottles for single use in the U.S. city . After collection and protests by activists , local authorities entered into an agreement and determined that only water can be marketed in plastic bottles which involve more than 600 ml .

The measure aims to reduce the environmental impacts for the production of PET and also its disposal. “We all know the importance of tackling climate change and San Francisco has led the fight for our environment,” said chairman of the board of supervisors, David Chiu, who was also the one who created the law .
