Amazônia's arena gets a new dealine

Miguel Capobiango, coordinator of the World Cup Project Management Unit (Copa-PMU), postponed to February 28 the deadline for completion of construction of the Amazônia’s Arena Vivaldo Lima in Manaus.

Previously forecasted information by the manager to D24AM Portal on January 22, gave a deadline at January 30 for the completion of the works.

Capobiango explained that the services of placement of the last membrane of the facade had completion scheduled for January 29. “We are finalizing the membranes (72 in total) and the facade of the podium (surroudings) will be the next step. The projection is that, by February 07 or 08, everything should be completed”, said the coordinator of PMU, stating that the progress report of the works in the Arena last week, were at 96.21%.

The official opening date for the Amazônia´s Arena, according Capobiango, will depend on conciliation with the President´s, Dilma Rousseff, schedule, who confirmed presence in the event via telephone with the governor of the state, Omar Aziz.

The classic Rio vs. Nat, the match between National and Rio Negro, is still the opening match of the stadium. Those two centenary clubs were supposed to have played against each other on January 15, but this was before the setbacks postponed it to an indefinite date, while the opening of the new Vivaldão was originally scheduled for December 20.

On December 15, the Labor Court paralyzed the works on the Amazônia Arena for five days. The court upheld an order from the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPT) due to the death of Marcleudo de Melo Ferreira, employee who fell from a height of 35 meters while working on the roof of the stadium.

During the World Cup, the Arena will host four first round groups matches June: England vs. Italy on the 14th; Cameroon vs. Croatia on the 18th, United States Vs. Portugal on the 22nd and Honduras vs Switzerland on the 25th.
