To celebrate the 80th anniversary and promote a new range of low fares for January, Air France decided that billboards and other forms of traditional advertising just wouldn’t do the job.
As they gained approval from the Civil Aviation Authority, the airline created a very own stunt, à la Batman, projecting the lights onto the clouds over some of London’s most popular locations.
Created by the british agencies Curb and CMT Events, AirFrance outfitted a black cab so that it was able to project images of an aeroplane, the brand’s logo, and the promotion’s hashtag (#AirFranceSky), directly onto the sky.
General public is invited to take part in a contest following the Twitter @AirFranceUK, posting a phrase which would like to see projected over two thousand feet.
Selected phrases will be projected, the projection filmed and sent to the winner, who will be invited to share the experience with family and friends through social networks. And receive the final prize: two return long distance tickets to any Air France destination.
This stunt aims to pull people out of their January slump. The first of the overhead projections happened on the 7th January at London’s Waterloo station, close to the London Eye, with other planned in Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh – some of Air France’s regional hubs.
London is taylor made for this stunt, since it needs a cloudy sky to get the desired impact. Depending on how high the clouds are, projections can look really beautiful.
