José Fortunati, Porto Alegre’s mayor, ensured that the deadline for completion of temporary structure works for the World Cup will be by the end of May.
After taking the risk of not receiving World Cup games in Porto Alegre, had the bill that encourages private companies to build temporary structures in exchange for tax exemptions not been approved by the Legislature, José Fortunati returned to be optimistic.
On the 242nd city anniversary, at Federasul, he explained that, without the structures for press, energy, technology information and security areas, among others, there would be no World Cup.
On “Tá na Mesa”, speaking about “Imagine after the World Cup”, the mayor said that, despite the problems, the City is beginning to change its face. To leave behind some of the pessimism, it is worth remembering that the City will continue to exist after the event, and also the investments of R$ 880 million only in urban mobility”, he said.
The mayor noted that Porto Alegre is the host city that sold most of the tickets, so it is expanding the hospitality industry, attracting expansion of hospitals – opportunities that provide heating of the economy. “Taking the World Cup was by no means a problem. We have 14 works in progress and they would not be happening if not for this event”, he commented.
For Federasul’s chairman, Simone Leite, who chaired the “Tá na Mesa”, the amount of investment, both public and private that are being made in infrastructure are fundamental to many challenges to be overcome in the area of transport and urban mobility.
By hosting the World Cup, Porto Alegre will reach a prominent position in the world. These actions will enable the City to enhance and generate more wealth through tourism, exposing its natural and cultural attractions and urban leisure attractives.
