Traffic officers will have English lessons in Uberlandia

The aim of the free basic course is to prepare the employees to serve the public that will be visiting the city. The coordinator of the Benefits and Gratuity Core, Rodrigo Queiroz, said that, in addition to sporting events, the city also welcomes many tourists every year.

Transit agents and transport supervisors of Uberlandia started, this January 04, to prepare to receive important international sporting events. The Department of Traffic and Transportation (Settran) has partnered with the Social Service of Commerce (SESC) so they start to have English lessons.

“Seeing that, these days, Uberlândia is inserted in the international arena through tourism, business, sport and culture, we believe that it is very important to develop this innovative project in partnership with SESC. We want to better serve the increasingly growing foreign audiences”, he said.

Through Uberlandia´s Tourism, Sports and Leisure Foundation (Futel) and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Uberlândia´s city hall reported that two international events would be held: the Nations Futsal Cup, in March and the Women’s Volleyball World Gran Prix, in August.

“According to the sporting events demand that we have, we aim to provide the necessary agents. The intent is to primarily provide the agents who received the English lessons”, explained Rodrigo Queiroz.

Expectation

Ismael Tourne Echenique is one of the agents that will be taking part in the basic English course. Like his colleagues, he hopes that the lessons will provide the needed preparation to serve the city’s population and, especially, foreign visitors.

“We hope to give these visitors a good response, making them want to return to the city. I hope to learn how to pass information so everyone can get to their desired destination, such as historical sites, offices and international volleyball, basketball and soccer events such as the World Cup, since Uberlândia is a sub headquarter”, said Ishmael.
